AI Data Center Index design teardown

@Ruemic asked us to roast aidatacenterindex.com, so we ran it through Pincushion. The data is genuinely impressive — a mapped registry of 346 facilities across 64 countries. The page just doesn't lead with the thing that makes it credible. Here's what we'd change, pinned to the real page.

Why AI Data Center Index caught our eye

It's a real data product with deep coverage, and the gaps below are the small clarity ones almost every data site ships with — the homepage names what it is before it earns trust with the numbers, and the top nav gives a first-time visitor no single obvious next step. Easy to miss when you've stared at your own page for months.

What we'd change — 2 findings

  1. 1
The h1 names the format, not the payoff. "AI data center map and market registry" describes the format. Your own title tag already nails it — "346 facilities, 64 countries." Lead the h1 with that specificity; for a data product, concrete numbers signal authority instantly.
  2. 2
The top bar offers no single obvious action. Overview / Market Overview / Submit don't tell a first-time visitor what to do or why. Pick the one job — explore the map, or get the dataset — and make it the primary CTA. "Submit a facility" is a contributor action, not a newcomer's first step.

Each of these is a pin. On your own site, Pincushion hands that pin straight to your coding agent with the selector, screenshot, and thread attached — so the fix ships, not just the note.

Pincushion runs the same critique on your page, free. Stakeholders (or our AI critic) drop pins on the real elements, your coding agent reads them through the MCP server, and the deploy loop tracks the fix to a merged PR. No tickets, no Kanban.

FAQ

What is a design teardown?
A short, honest critique of a live page. We pin the two or three things that actually move clarity or conversion on the real page, and explain the fix for each. No score, no generic checklist.
Is AI Data Center Index involved in this teardown?
No. This is an outside critique of a public page, the same way a designer friend would react to it. Nothing here is affiliated or sponsored.
Are you AI Data Center Index and want this taken down?
Just ask — email hello@pincushion.io and we'll remove it, no questions asked. We only teardown pages whose owners publicly asked for feedback, but it's your call.
Can I get a teardown of my own site?
Yes, and it's free. Start here — Pincushion pins the issues on your real page and hands each one to your coding agent to fix.
